Shaikh Abubakar is an AAOIFI Certified Shariah Advisor and Auditor with over a decade experience in Islamic financial services. He holds a Master’s degree in Islamic Finance from INCEIF University, Kuala Lumpur and an LLB degree in Islamic Law from Al-Imam University Riyadh, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

He has been involved in product development, Shariah research and approval of Islamic banking products for different clients. His work covers retail banking, corporate banking and project finance. Abubakar is currently an ACE Member of Sterling Alternative Finance, Sterling Bank Plc., Nigeria since June 2013 to date working to ensure that the window is Shariah compliant on all its dealings.

He also works as a Shariah Adviser to Shape Knowledge Services – Shape Financial Corp/University Bank, USA and began his work from April 1, 2010 to date. Over a decade, he has been working for several clients on product development and Shariah consulting Previously he had his professional Shariah training at Fajr Capital Plc Kuala Lumpur (August 2008 – January 2009), an asset management company.

After successfully completing the training at Fajr Capital Plc, Abubakar worked as a Shariah researcher at the research arm of the Central Bank of Malaysia (BNM), the International Shariah Research Academy for Islamic Finance, ISRA, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia (from 1st March 2008 – 30th April, 2010)
