Start InvestingBasheer Oshodi Ph.D. has over 24 years of work experience in banking, real estate, and academia. He is the Chief Executive of TrustArthur – a fund management company; adviser to a UK Shariah-compliant Real Estate Fund; was Group Head of non-interest Banking at Sterling Bank and set up the non-interest banking window in 2013. He also set forth The Alternative Bank proposition. He was a member of the Non-Interest Finance Working Group – sponsored by EFInA (DFID programme) and was a member of the SEC Alternative Finance Market Master Plan Committee. Basheer was Head, Non-Interest Finance and Head, Research at EFInA. He was Head, of Islamic Banking Risk & Compliance at Stanbic IBTC Bank (a member of Standard Bank Group) and set up the non-interest banking window in 2009. He also initiated products compliant with non-interest finance principles for Stanbic IBTC Asset Management Ltd. He has worked as an investment analyst and business analyst in other capacities; and has mobilized over USD500m in equity and debt over the years aside fund/sukuk/commercial paper issuances of over N800 billion.
Basheer has completed a Post-Graduate Diploma in Global Business at Said Business School, University of Oxford; the Executive Programme in International Housing Finance at Wharton, University of Pennsylvania, USA; and Digital Business Strategy at Columbia University, USA. He holds a PhD in integral economic development and Islamic finance from DaVinci Institute for Technology Management – South Africa in conjunction with Trans4m Center for Integral Development, Geneva. He started MPhil Economics from the University of Buckingham, UK. He obtained a master’s in research (MRes) Business & Management from London Metropolitan University; PGD from the Institute of Islamic Banking & Insurance (IIBI), London and he is an Associate Fellow of the institution; MSc Management and BSc Estate Management from the University of Lagos.
Research Associate at the University of Johannesburg; Senior Fellow at Trans4m; Research Fellow – Centre for Housing Studies, Unilag and the University of Lagos Business School; Research Fellow – Centre for Integral Socio-Economic Research, Lagos; and Senior Associate, Chartered Institute of Islamic Finance Professionals, Malaysia. Member of the International Atlantic Economic Society (IAES) and American Economic Association (AEA). Research focus is development economics across several jurisdictions, innovation management and Islamic finance. Author of the book titled – ‘An Integral Approach to Development Economics: Islamic Finance in an African Context’; and co-author of Islamic to Integral Finance: A Semiotic Approach. He has also published 30 academic articles & chapters and over 50 non-academic articles.
